FAQ

Some frequently asked questions.

What size can my cabin be?

Our cabins are built with easy transportation in mind, so they are all made to just under 3 metres wide, to fit onto a container truck, but can be as small as 3 metres long as well, or as large as 12 metres long.

Do I need a building permit?

It depends on the size of cabin you want.  Most of our smaller cabins are on skids and are a movable structure, so no permits are needed.  However if you want a larger, more permanent structure you would need to apply for a building permit and have it approved before we start construction on your unit.

What is included in the price of the cabin?

The price of the cabin includes all building materials, wiring, lighting, plumbing and interior decoration (neutral decor) ready to move in.  If you want a bathroom, kitchenette, fold-down bed or cabinetry, that would all be extra depending on what standard of fittings you desire.  All the cabins come complete with a caravan plug for connecting to mains electricity, but if you would like to go off grid and have a solar system, that would also be extra.

What size solar system can I get?

If you wanted a solar system for your cabin, the 3kW would be ample.  If you want a solar system retrofitted to your existing house, we would need to come and do an assessment of your power needs and give a quote on a system that would meet your needs.

Where can I find out more information about solar energy?

There are many sites on the web where you can get information on solar power, but if you visit the EECA website on www.eeca.govt.nz you will find good information and advice regarding different forms of energy including solar.
